Trapped in the woods

I shiver in the shade

The trees shied the warmth

My green prison

The leaves rustle lightly

Brushing against my skin

I’m entangled in the branches

Of my mind

Each screeching bird within

Resting on the branches

Calling out

To each unsettled thought

They fly through my memories

Pecking at my regret

My guilt grows wings

As it travels through the forest

I can’t escape

I’m lost in the maze of branches

Vines wrap around me

There’s no escape

I fall into icy water

The river numbs my pain

I’m soaked to the bone

The water makes me transparent

But the forest hides me

I fade into the shadows

The many shades of green

My minds camouflage

My one place of comfort

No judgement in my shade

I’ve lost my fear

No more panic about escape

I can’t be found

My prison becomes my shield

I’m comforted by the dark

Forest in my mind

I live in my prison
